Much a Word for Play

A nice spice spliced open and diced Should fare well with a Fulani heir Since there's water to spare as that would be fair. And I would rather pair a welcome with farewell Than have a knifey wedge, Threateningly gauged to land on my spinal hedge. Thus take it as a nudge To enjoy all 'spices' for the right price while the hay is made as sunshine is given a stay. For its execution, Will find resolution when cloud simulation, Is turned to reality from animation. A raindrop's excitation heralds a new generation Of leafy vegetation and seasonal variations Exhibit their limitation with people expressing reservations The one likes not the umbrella, Scorching heat is the problem of another fella Parties, makeup and one more on hold for a bella For Harmattan's on prowl bro you gotta tell her! Tribe

First comes the family And then the tribe I would think One belongs to a tribe Not of his own doing or say Providence has it That it should be so. You and I Him and Her Come from a Tribe That is for sure. The sense of belonging thus derived Is a console not to be deprived But unfortunately it is now a tool for instigation Used with the sacred religious institution Hand in hand, together in this our nation. In the name of tribe and religion, blood flows Consequently, lives are lost; wasted en masse Lives that are trusts to various tribes Thus a hopeless cycle we host today Of killings repeated every other day Is not the division Into tribes and communities A blessing from God? That we may recognize, respect and have order. Contrarily, evil has made man turn it into a border Entrenching divide and subjugation one by the other Selfishness and greed conquering many Since they succumb to whatever means The End allowing the employ of any Means Thus daily increa...

On Philosophy and Thought(s)

Philosophy is so vast that one is constrained to use words sparingly in defining it. For me thought or thinking is what comes to mind and it would seem to encompass every imaginable thing under the face of the earth which returns us to another round of using few words. Philosophy is man. Philosophy is life. It is history combined with the present and spread out to give you the future. Philosophy is that unseen technology that has propelled man both on one hand to the depths of destruction (of his soul) and to the zenith of acclaim in humanity's sojourn on earth.  Philosophy is everything and nothing at once. For as the candle lights up a room, useless would it be in the dark without a stroke of a match or any other means of lighting it. I love ideas & thought. To me these represent the fountain of knowledge. As we think we utilize the most complex organ known to man. From this spring forth the phenomenon of ideas; ‘packets of possibilities’. With ideas so much is...

Take a Hike to Mount Cranium

In the hilly slopes of Mount Cranium You’d find crevices that have been hidden Away from adulteration and contamination. There, flowers still bloom in your very presence The hum of a stream running along the banks are distinct Against the backdrop of the chirping birds Whistling of the breeze dancing amongst leaves   Branches swaying as does the grass in the fields First rays of the morning sun creeping into your abode Waft of fresh bread baked out of an oven These are just a little of what’s in store When you take a hike To Mount Cranium Haidar Wali 201304110906

On Participation of the Womenfolk in Society

It is my candid belief that much of the socio-economic problems we experience are a result of a dearth of requisite representation of women in areas like health, education, social welfare, youth development where they are superior in knowledge and naturally fit to be able to best proffer sustainable solutions which can be implemented at the home-front, community, & general grassroots level. With particular reference to Northern Nigeria and specifically Muslim communities, it is a bitter truth that the extent to which traditions & culture have been intermingled with religious doctrine has created a wide gap in all developmental indices with the female population being resigned to a latent and virtually dependent/unproductive liability on our society. So far as the society does not embrace reform with an open mind while looking inward and essentially creating a new paradigm, so long will we continue to wallow in a 'rat race' of sorts. Balance is what we ...

A Word or Two for Spouses

When was the last time you had a 'honeymoon'? Never...??? LOL! Honestly, this might secretly be the reality for many a couple. It's so evident that marriage despite it's pre-nuptial allure quickly descends to become unrecognizable and  a convenience of sorts instead of the wonder that it's supposed to be. I want to use this medium to briefly touch on certain things that we often ignore and refuse to consider as we struggle to 'shore up' our marriage rating. Basically, the first thing that people forget is that our marriages are like gardens. They need constant care and nurturing. And it can never be enough...each single moment needs to be consciously made into a mutual building block...that sprinkle of freshness that waters the garden and leaves the air rented with the smell of love, companionship and faithfulness. Next, we find that people mistakenly let themselves be deceived into always thinking that renewing our bonds needs ...

What Can Never Mean? (Poetry)

As I sit here thinking of you I wonder how it would be to time travel I fantasize of the existence of dimensions ...Where we could be together Alas it is not to be As I stand up to do my daily routine I wonder how it would have been with you I dream of another life ...The best that never was Instead it is not to be As I go through memorabilia I wonder why our paths crossed I imagine whether it’s destiny ...Though proper it not be I’m mesmerized by your thoughts As I write these few lines I wonder if you hear me I visualize you staring at me ...Receiving this message ‘unsent’ I ask: Is this what never means? An Unforgettable Moment (Poetry)

A bird fluttered and landed on my shoulder. I froze still fearing it take away in flight. I couldn't see it yet my mind said to me it was a beauty. I started imagining how it looked. Every few seconds the light movement of its feet; ...the cooing intonations ...registered its presence. As the breeze whistled by, I felt a soothing calm. Immediately, I became awe struck by my Lord's creation... The inimitable symphony that is life. Alas I couldn't keep the moment. ...As I inhaled and heaved in ...The fluttering wings swept into my view. I only caught the tail view of the creature... The wonder that took me on an unforgettable journey. So long. Haidar Wali 201207110111hrs This is for that which was not to be...yet...still had to be.

Motherhood: Selflessness Personified

It’s something we would take for granted, not thinking of how pervasive the act of being a mother is. I am unabashed to say here that this piece is primarily done to eulogize and extol the virtuousness, altruism and purity that is evident in a Mother’s actions. Thus any who feel they cannot stand the rather insistent commendation I am about to give, should leave now or forever hold their peace. I cannot think of anyone more worthy of praise after my Creator than my Mother. Even now that I am all grown up and have started my own family it’s more evident than ever what Motherhood signifies. It is a special role through which humanity has been able to continue marching into the arms of Future without which we would have lost cultures, values, customs, and even ways of our lives. Just as the unimaginable joy of a mother seeing her child for the first time cannot be quantified nor put to words, so also the pain and/or anguish of childbirth would best not be imagined...

An Opinion on the World Today

It seems as though people are gradually becoming zombies as you wake up each day and go through a routine. Days turn into weeks; months; years...all flying by like as if a fast-forward was pressed on life and we are seeing people, events and activities go by and being buried in the sands of time. I thus decided to look at the world on a global level and touch a few issues baring my mind on what I feel. No doubt that since the dawn of time, economic interests have influenced most happenings and developments in the world and leading us to where we are today. Over the ages, powers, alliances, empires, institutions, ideologies, and interests of different forms have risen; reigned and come and gone. In this day and age the US is no doubt the World Power and nothing has primed it for this position so much as its sense of strategy. Strategic positioning in the economic and political sphere based on a military and defensive outlook has made US what it is. Coalition in th...
