Reminisces of A Scared Motorist

So there I was in my car doing 120km/hour on the highway from Kaduna to Abuja one fine afternoon. I was wearing an earpiece listening to something interesting. Then out of no where this - thing - super fast - blew past me so fast, that some things happened to me all at once.

First of all I thought my car had malfunctioned (blown tire or engine knocked). Then even though I was driving, it felt as if I had stopped in my tracks and at the same time the whole vehicle shook like a tipper truck disposing its payload.

And then I saw it.

Well not exactly it.

Its backside.

It was moving so fast it looked like I was seeing it in slow motion floating away and within a few moments it had disappeared into the horizon. By then - since I was luckily on the slow lane - I had slowed down and I promptly parked. I stepped out of the car and did a quick survey of the exterior to make sure that everything was still intact and no part of my vehicle had come undone. I popped the bonnet of the car and checked the engine too having a conspiracy in my head that my engine had been affected. Luckily, everything was good.

I went back into the car and started it, revving the engine thrice and I held the throttle in place for a few seconds before releasing. Satisfied with everything I put on my seat belt, replaced my earphones and silently mouthed: "There is God", before I set off again to continue my journey.

I actually do not know why as I drove away I had conflicting feelings in me. Was it because I had been scared shit out of this world or because I had a regret that I wasn't the one driving that -thing - that exposed my pretense of courage.

And that was how I realized that there are 'cars' and then there are 'Machines'.
