Open Letter to Members of NASS

Dear Hon. Senator/Representative,

Let me start by congratulating you on your recent victory to be my representative in the National Assembly of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. It is indeed an auspicious occasion that has seen you ushered in at a time when 'Change' seems to be what defines the moment. Without taking too much of your time, as you must evidently have little of it to spare, reading only me as against the millions of people out there who are all waiting and expecting you to 'hit the ground running', I will go straight to the matter.

I am first and foremost writing to express my outrage on the humongously outrageous sums that are being bandied about as the allowances that have been earned by past sessions of the National Assembly and will as well be earned by you and your colleagues in the newly inaugurated 8th Assembly. I would like to categorically state that it is a rip-off of extreme proportions to have such blatant sums doled out while so many problems afflict the general populace ranging from dilapidated infrastructures to extreme poverty and ultimately an imploding sub-human existence.

We as your constituents would like to therefore respectfully bring to your notice that we demand a revision of all allowances and payments due to the members of the National Assembly in order to bring them to a reasonable limit within the realm of decency and equitable parity. This is both in the context of exigency as well as graceful decorum.

It is pertinent to inform you that there is already a call to action that seeks to ensure all members of the National Assembly comply with the above, in line with the wishes of the Nigerian citizenry who are the highest level of decision making and in whom lies the ultimate power and authority in the country. Any failure in compliance will be met with an invocation of electoral recall.

I will not end without also conveying to you our representatives, that our expectation is for you to honor our mandate which we gave to you in trust at the polls. This must include but not be limited to sponsoring of bills and resolutions, full participation in all activities and engaging in robust discussions on all matters before the National Assembly. This would ensure that every single moment you spend as a representative is fully used in providing adequate representation and oversight on all issues that concern us as citizens while we continue to comfortably lead our day to day lives.

In conclusion, I want to reiterate our total support for you and belief in your capability and capacity to fulfill our wishes as your constituents and will always be available to provide you with whatever support and or advice you may need.

Long Live The Federal Republic of Nigeria.

Yours faithfully,

Maje Amin 201506171324hrs
