Morality, Permissiveness & Abstinence in Today's Complex World
Today
more than ever Muslims are faced with unabated attacks on the
fundamentals that provide protection against the erosion of the moral
fabric of our society. And no where is this more evident than in the
area of the media that is used to gradually erase & reshape the
thoughts of many towards sexuality and the permissiveness that permeates
the global village.
From the condom ads, to the promotion of free-mixing of male & female and the glorification of the woman's body in almost every advert, it is hard to avoid the nudge & trudging along people are sub-consciously resigning & consigning to immorality as a normal part of life.
I wish to say that the reality is that we will never return back to a situation where, modesty and utmost morality is the order of the day and on a daily basis our societies' moral defenses are being eroded by the proliferation of uncountable ploys which keep pushing us away from the true path.
This is in exact alignment with the prophesy of our Holy Prophet (SAW) about the End times. Thus, given the realities we are faced with...we have no option but to re-instill the approach of preaching total abstinence which has always been the ONLY safeguard against any & all ills of pre/extra-marital affairs...as well as the approach of conducting checks so as to ascertain spouses' status'.
Essentially, this latter approach is not to be seen as a justification for people to engage in affairs but rather as a safeguard to mutual and individual suffering. The main challenge is the issue of stigmatization which has unfortunately blinded our societies to the reality that contraction of HIV/AIDS can as well be entirely not as a result of promiscuity but rather several other channels of infection. So in the end all cases are lumped up as cases of loose partners.
So, what I'm trying to emphasize is that the complexity of our world today necessitates that Muslims need to evolve into proactive citizens and be forerunners in various fields so that we are not left behind as catch-ups. The fundamental of abstinence should always form the basis of our campaigns while we provide a leeway to tackle the accommodation of dynamic cases which need careful & intelligent handling.
May Allah provide us with the will, ability, & wisdom to overcome our challenges and preserve our core Islamic ideological standpoint...which will in turn ensure the survival the best community amongst mankind.
