What to Do with Your Life; Finding Purpose

We are faced with the above question at one point in time in our lives or another and it begs for an answer which usually remains elusive; sometimes even till we are no more. Yet the issue can present itself so evidently for some that it seems they knew from the day they were born what they came to do in this complex world we inhabit. Countless ideologies seek to present to their adherents what their life's purpose is with fervent enthusiasm. Each seeks to convince and convert to their way in a myriad of varied approaches.

Just as much, we as individuals are born ardently searching for purpose as if it was a long lost possession; a missing piece of the puzzle; and a chunk that completes each one of us.Suffice it to say the whole issue remains an enigma to us which despite the mystery (or more correctly: because of the mystery), as humans we are bound to continue in this trajectory. Thus given the inevitability of our permanent quest, I wish to present my view on this great unknown of our lives.

I start by acknowledging that purpose in life has no single definitive roadmap and in most cases it can be likened to groping at nothing in an unknown terrain.

However, one thing that we all share in common when it comes to searching for purpose in life is that we are all drawn to those things we like, want, enjoy, treasure or love. In other words, people seek purpose in those things they are attracted to by way of interest. This single fact is the key to any roadmap for seeking purpose.
Therefore, if 'interest in something' is the 'Alpha and Omega' then we can confidently move a step forward and deduce that interest in any particular thing will ultimately lead to constant attention being focused in such a direction, culminating in repetitive acts which breed excellence.

Lest my theory be rubbished it would be appropriate here to quickly chip in the most popular social science Latin saying: 'Ceteris Paribus' - all other things being equal-which they usually aren't!?. What I mean is that even with all the hypothesizing, human behavior doesn't always follow a theoretical model that seeks to describe it because the variables involved are too numerous to control.

So, that people do not follow the step by step deduction I have made above when pursuing their purpose in life should not be surprising as it is a normal phenomenon. Yet as a guide, the presumptions could help individuals for where there is no compass we must make-do with the map we hold.

To re-cap summarily, purpose can be sought by focusing on that which we have interest in. Focus gives bearing and builds proficiency. Proficiency raised by the power of some degrees distinguishes individuals amongst their peers and by a certain point in their lives they look back and see that they would have found 'What to Do with Their Lives'. This is the crux of the matter.

The foregoing my dear audience is my roadmap. There are numerous others and I enjoin you to go through as many of them as possible for ultimately life's journey is best taken by sharing experiences and knowledge.
However in conclusion, I wish to say that 'What to Do with Your Life' all comes down to YOU. It remains your prerogative to seek meaning and to find a comfortable way of doing so.

And so I wish everyone the very best in his/her search for Purpose.
